About Us

kai.kbd

Most objects on your desk cannot explain themselves.

Ask why this edge break is this radius.

Why the weight sits where it does.
Why the surface reads the way it does across the light.

In most cases, the answer is that it looked right.
That it sounds "good". That its the best thing they've ever heard.

Half-hearted answers that don't indicate intention or understanding.

kai.kbd was built to reject this:

Every decision on a kai.kbd board has to have an actual answer.

It may not always be the right answer on the first attempt,
but they get rebuilt.

It is not that every decision made will be correct, but that after countless debates and iterations:
That a final decision is made because I am sure of it.

This is a selfish brand by necessity.

As designing for consensus means every conviction eventually gets averaged out.

The edge break gets optimised for machining. The mounting system gets value-engineered. The acoustic profile that took six months to arrive gets deadened.

I no longer want to make those trades.

If you want to know why something is the way it is,
I will be able to tell you, with conviction.
